A protected monument transformed into Guernsey’s smallest (and coolest) boutique hotel
WINNER – ENGINEERING PROJECT OF THE YEAR
2019 GUERNSEY CONSTRUCTION AWARDS
Our aim was to achieve modern comfort with a creative, contemporary design that retained the essence of the tower’s rugged history. The challenges presented by its form and construction were epitomised by the staircase, which had to fit the precise dimensions of the structure, provide sufficient storage space (including for a full kitchenette), and be comprised of parts that would fit through the tiny door.
The compact nature of the tower’s interior meant that we had to approach it almost like a boat, designing hatches, ladders, creative storage concepts and other unusual features to optimise the space, combining contemporary style with traditional comfort.
By working closely with engineers, contractors and several specialist craftspeople, we found innovative solutions to every challenge and achieved a truly unique result.
