Creating a magical den for the imagination
Long used for telling stories to children, the room at the very top of the Guille-Allès Library was neither practical nor inspirational. Our task was to improve accessibility and flexibility, enable additional multi-function wellness uses, and to restore the magic of the unique space!
A full wrap of battened grid panelling accentuates the asymmetrical form of the tapered walls and round portholes, while architecturally linking back to the building’s history. A magnetic layer within the lining enables librarians to adorn the walls endlessly with decorations, without damaging the fabric, while a careful theatrical and fully adjustable lighting scheme adds flexible atmospheric control. The result is a cosy, playful hub to nurture creativity.
